Mr. Kaukab Iqbal is the Chairman of CAP and rendered his matchless and unbelievable services for the protection of consumer's rights. He is the founder of Consumers Association of Pakistan which caused the awareness among consumers towards their rights. Basically he belongs to a respectable, noble and literary but a moderate family. Mr. Kaukab Iqbal started his excited attachment for this grand purpose when he was gaining primary education, he had been the social secretary of his school. Later on, he was assigned with the responsibilities of the president which indicates and exposes his devotion and dedication for empowering the society with it's rights. He begged his L.L.B. from a recognized university along with seeking training internationally for the consumer's awareness programs, that's way he visited different countries to know about the rights of consumers. He, after his successful achievements in education, attached to his business on the suggestion of his father, who used to work in a distinguished company. After gaining partnership there, he started import & export and worked a lot for coconut oil pump plantation and has a durable reputation for this plantation through out the Pakistan. Today, he is not known only in Pakistan as protector of consumers rights but also in the world. Business Monitor interviewed Mr. Kaukab Iqbal in his office to enlighten the consumers that to what are their rights while using product.

Mr Gulzar Firoz is a distinguished industrialist possessing eminent qualities of leadership. He belongs to a renowned family that has been active in business since the inception of Pakistan. It enjoys a high reputation and has made rich contributions to national economic progress. He was born in December 1944 in India Bombay. He begged his matriculation from St. Pat's (PAF) in 1961, Maripur Karachi and Intermediate in science from D.J Science College Karachi in 1963; additionally he is also a Leather Technologist from London in 1965. In the same context he entered in business in 1965 after return from London and since then involved in the running of leather business. Leather business has been in the family since ancestors. Have widely traveled to many countries since 1965.He led first Tanners Delegation to South Korea in 1987.
Visited China from 2nd - 8th December 1994 in the Entourage of the President of Pakistan, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari. Visited Turkmenistan as Member of Delegation with the Entourage of Late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Prime Minister of Pakistan from 26th - 28th October 1994. As far as his significant positions are concerned , he has been the Former Chairman and Vice Chairman Pakistan Tanners Association during 1971/ 1977/ 1978/ 1979/ 1985/ 1986/ 1994. Former Chairman of Export Promotion Committee on Leather & Leather Products (1985-88). Former Member of Governing Council of Pakistan Design Institute (1988 to 1990). Capping yarn export could be challenged at WTO
The Cabinet decision of capping yarn export to a maximum of 50,000 million kgs per month could be challenged at WTO as it is against the world trade body's rules. NPA group wins PPMA elections
KARACHI: National Pharmaceu-tical Alliance (NPA) won the elections of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA). According to a press release Monday, Asad Shuja-ur-Rehman, Khawaja Shahzeb Akram, Ijaz Ahmed Siddiqui and Shafiq Abbasi won their respective seats. President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad, Senior Vice President-KCCI, Rasheeduddin Rashid, Vice President-KCCI, Javed Ahmed Vohra, said that 20th January, 2010 will be the last and final date for submitting claims by the affectees of 28th December, 2009. They also requested that claim forms by affectees/claimants, and survey/offers for reconstruction of damaged/destroyed buildings must be submitted positively by January 20, 2010 (6 PM), afterwards no claim would not be received and entertained.

ICCBS, COMSATS sign MoU
The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (KU), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) Islamabad to provide education, training and research opportunities to young faculty members and technicians in COMSATS member states. Director ICCBS Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhary and Executive Director COMSATS Dr Imtinan Elahi Qureshi signed the MoU in a meeting held in Karachi. An official of the ICCBS in a statement said that both the parties have agreed to provide education, training and research opportunities to young faculty members and technician in COMSATS member countries. The agreement will enhance research capacity in chemical and biological sciences through the use of relevant high-tech equipment and the training to maintain such equipment in prime working condition, it said. According to the MoU, up to 10 grants will be offered for visiting faculties by the parties per year.

Pakistan to hand over SAARC CCI presidency to Bangladesh today
Pakistan will hand over presidency of the SAARC CCI to Bangladesh today (Sunday) at a ceremony arranged by the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in Dhaka. The ceremony will be held after 47th executive meeting and 14th general assembly meeting, which will be chaired by SAARC CCI President Tariq Sayeed. The upcoming president of SAARC CCI is Annis-ul-Huq, who is a prominent business leader of Bangladesh and is also president of FBCCI. FPCCI has nominated FPCCI President Sultan Ahmed Chawla, SAARC CCI Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik, Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed, Fazal Elahi, S M Naseer and Wali Muhammad on the executive committee of SAARC CCI for the year 2010-2011.

FPCCI, vet varsity to establish linkages
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore will sign a memorandum of understanding to establish linkages between the academia and industry. Chairman of FPCCI's SME Committee Rahmatullah Javed, who led a delegation of the FPCCI's regional office, stated this in a meeting with faculty members of the university's MBA Department. In his address, Javed offered the university to take full benefit of the resources available with the trade and industry for grooming young students. He said the FPCCI would coordinate with and support the university in arranging seminars and symposiums and round-table conferences on various topics of trade and industry in order to enhance knowledge and vision of students. He also offered to arrange visits to various industrial organisations for MBA students so that they could have better understanding of industrial requirements. The university's Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Mohammad Nawaz, gave a briefing on research and development activities and educational courses offered by the university. He also confirmed their linkages with the stakeholders in the country and abroad. In the end, Rahmatullah Javed distributed certificates of appreciation to faculty members, students and FPCCI members for their contribution to formulating the Strategic Development Plan 2010 for Punjab. The plan has already been handed over to the provincial government for implementation. Javed paid tributes to research team leader Mustafa Zaidi, Director External Linkages UVAS, who played a key role in formulating proposals for the development plan of Punjab.

FPCCI and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) plan to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish linkage between academia and industry. Rahmatullah Javed, Chairman of the SME, Federation Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), said this on Tuesday while he was leading a delegation of regional office of the FPCCI to meet the faculty members of MBA department of UVAS. He offered UVAS to take benefit of the resources available with the trade industry to link the most important factors such as promotion of trade and industry, and grooming of young students for their future responsibilities. He confirmed that FPCCI was ready to cooperate for the research work in bio-technology, bio-agriculture, bio-chemicals, dairy-farming and poultry. He also offered to arrange visits to various industrial organisations for the MBA students. The delegation comprised entrepreneurs and members of the FPCCI, including Mehmood Ahmad Chairman Gems and jewellery FPCCI, Anwar A Sheikh Chairman Public Relations of SAARC Chamber, Nargis Zaman Chairperson Women Poverty alleviation committee Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry(LCCI) and Rana Siddique-ur-Rehman Chairman China ASEAN committee FPCCI and LCCI. After the meeting Rehmatullah Javed gave certificates of appreciation to the faculty members, students and members of FPCCI for their contribution to the formulation of Strategic Development Plan 2010 for Punjab.

First International eHealth Conference 2010
The First International eHealth Conference 2010 was the first of its kind in Pakistan .An announcement that it was aimed at building networks that could share and enhance knowledge of eHealth and advocate for the support of eHealth programmes in Pakistan. It was pointed out that the eHealth uses information and communications technologies to provide cost-effective health services at a distance (telehealth), manage clinical and administrative information (health informatics), and share information and knowledge with health care providers, patients and communities (eLearning). The conference has been organised by the eHealth Association of Pakistan, supported by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Information Technology and the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth. Delegates are expected to attend the national conference in person or through live video conferencing from the National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad.
