Global Environmental Lab (Private) Limited (GEL) was established in 1996, is the first dedicated environmental lab of Pakistan that is owned and managed by the private sector. After more than a decade of meticulous research and development, the lab has grown from initial operations being limited to the effluent analysis of certain parameters of NEQS to the additions of specialized and highly skilled services.

Mr. Asim expressed that today GEL has established its network of laboratories all over Pakistan. This expansion is the outcome of the rising economy and rapid industrial growth that led to the demand for a methodically superior and skilled environmental laboratory which was met only by the foresight and astuteness of the GEL management.

He claimed that GEL owns two commercial incineration facilities, one in Karachi and the other in Lahore. Both the facilities are approved by the relevant Environment Protection Agencies and have handled over 400,000 kgs of various types of industrial hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. The waste includes production line waste, damaged and spoiled raw materials, expired finished goods and sludge from treatment plants, oil contaminated soils etc.

He highlighted that the management with its consistent endeavors for the betterment of the services provided by GEL has been certified for Quality Management System (QMS). GEL is also working on ISO 17025 accreditation and will soon be one of the accredited labouratories.

While talking its national repute Mr. Asim Mehmood said that GEL's reputation for scrupulous monitoring and highly skilled staff has earned it international repute. Today, organizations like the World Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Mangla Joint Venture and the National Highway Authority (NHA) have shown their confidence on the authenticity of the Global Environmental Lab (Pvt) Ltd.

While talking about the sectors catered to, he said that today, GEL is the leading source of environmental solutions throughout the country. It is providing services to various sectors including, Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, Textiles Industries, Pharmaceuticals, Food Industries, Chemical Industries, Government Agencies (which includes Federal and Provincial EPAs), Non Government Organizations and Others.

In reply of a question regarding social responsibilities he openly admitted that The Management of Global Environmental Lab (Private) Limited realizes its corporate-social responsibilities. The Lab is not only working as a commercial organization, but also provides research and development facilities in its laboratories for advance research.

GEL also provides training to various industries, educational institutions, NGOs etc. Trainings are provided in the following fields: Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Environmental Awareness Health and Safety, National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS), Self Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART).

In his message to the readers of Business Monitor he openly said and expressed that we should not depend upon others rather than creating ground realities for our own-self.
