Silwat Afzal's attentions were towards
commerce sector but she put herself into esteemed field like architecture,
which in right way suited her as a holistic and futuristic manner. No doubt,
through looking forward continuously she placed a platform not for only
herself but also for those to whom she taught a variety of curriculum this
vast field. In this connection she wholeheartedly continued her preaching in
this field through both teaching and writing in newspapers and magazines.
At. Silwat Afzal expressed her expert views in an interview with business
monitor that she went ahead every step exquisitely and magnanimously while
showing her excellencies in this respected field. when it was asked about
her goals, she was of the firm views that initially there were some
bottlenecks and hurdles but gradually she tackled them in excellent way.
In
a reply to question about LAP, she stated that a majority of the qualified
practicing architects in the country are members of the IAP. They continue
to contribute vigorously to this concept of national growth, each in their
own way. And yet, the pangs of its own organization, questions of
aesthetics, often in the face of attack from without, are not totally over.
Resolution of lingering residual issues, emergence of newer ones keeps IAP,
a vigorous, vibrant and self rejuvenating organization, dealing and
encouraging new ideas and fresh concepts in tune with national growth and
aspirations.
She further elucidated that on the international institutional level IAP has
been founder and a driving force in the Architects Regional Council of Asia
(ARCASIA) and the South Asian Association of Architects (SAARCH). IAP
continues to support and make major contributions to these organizations.
Over the years, many IAP Members have held challenging portfolios in these
organizations and continue to do so today. IAP is also the National Section
of the International Union of Architects (UIA) IAP members have also made
significant contributions, as jury members and advisors to the Aga Khan
Award for Architecture (AKAA), the Kenneth Brown Asia-Pacific Award for
Architecture & Culture (KBAPAC), National Heritage and other National,
Provincial and City Government Committees over the years.
IAP must constantly support, encourage and ensure that these and other
participatory professional contributions locally and internationally
continue and indeed increase since the ultimate beneficiary of such
involvement is the profession of Architecture in Pakistan. Elaborating,
talking about the activities of the Institute of Architects she said that
Pakistan and its Chapters have intensified, and is augmented with design
competitions, seminars, lecture series, workshops and international forums
together with building products' expositions, first ever Design Excellence
Awards, student workshops and competitions coupled with an increasingly
pro-active stand on various heritage, environmental and architectural
issues.
When a question was posed that to what is the future of architects in
Pakistan she pleasurably disclosed that IAP, architecture and architects are
thus alive in Pakistan. With increasing membership and greater awareness of
their roles and rights and responsibilities, their active participation in
community life and with a new social outlook, we are poised on our 50th
Anniversary, for the great leap forward into the next fifty-year journey. We
do not want, as yet, to step on the moon, for us much remains to be done
here on earth, especially on the earth of our own nation. The Institute of
Architects, Pakistan, cannot but play a singular role in the coming years.
She open-heartedly wished the business monitor to be continuing it's force
of work with entire satisfaction and to leave no stone unturned for this
magnanimous purpose as per requirement. She said that high-spirited and
high-motive people always earn their success. So one need to be as honest as
he expects from others. |
