KCCI & LONDON CHAMBER TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION ON BILATERAL TRADE

A delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry comprising of Arif Balgamwala, Chairman, Diplomatic Affairs Sub-Committee, Nasir Mehmood, Chairman, Shipping & Multi-Modal Transport Sub-Committee, Ateeq Ur Rehman, Chairman, Banking & Insurance Sub-Committee, KCCI's members Arshad Islam, Asif Nisar and M.A. Rajpar visited British Deputy High Commission and met H.E. Mr. Robert W. Gibson, British Deputy High Commissioner.

Arif Balgamwala, Chairman, Diplomatic Affairs Sub-Committee-KCCI was leading the delegation. He on his behalf and on the behalf of KCCI expressed gratitude and compliments to the British Deputy High Commissioner for his valued services. He informed about the role of KCCI towards promotion of trade & business activities at national & international level. He also expressed high regards and compliments to the British Business Community for maintaining trade with Pakistani counterparts.

Arif Balagamwala, Chairman, Diplomatic Affairs Sub-Committee-KCCI informed H.E. Mr. Robert W. Gibson, British Deputy High Commissioner about his recent visit to London Chamber of Commerce & Industry and his meeting with Mr. Peter Bishop, Deputy Chief Executive of London Chamber. He informed that during the meeting socio-economic issues and matters of bilateral trade were discussed. Mr. Peter Bishop, Deputy Chief Executive, London Chamber of Commerce & Industry appreciated that during the last 15 years he was the first representative from Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry to visit the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Mr. Bishop was surprised to learn about the 16000 members of KCCI and he informed that London Chamber had 2500 registered members. He asserted on the need of frequent exchange of information between London Chamber & KCCI to explore bilateral trade prospects. Perception of Pakistan in the eyes of world was also discussed and Arif Balgamwala focused that although Pakistan was facing some unrest in its northern area however, generally the law & order situation in Pakistan was better.

H.E. Mr. Robert W. Gibson, British Deputy High Commissioner welcomed the delegation of KCCI, in reciprocal expressed his gratitude and compliments to KCCI and the business community of Karachi. He appreciated the role and efforts of KCCI to accelerate the economic activities. He also appreciated Arif Balgamwala for visiting London Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He articulated that the exchange of visits between Chambers of Commerce are essential for better coordination and cooperation. He stated that Pakistan is an important country for Great Britain and both countries were maintaining better trade relations. Commenting on the travel advisory to British Citizens, he stated that law and order situation in Karachi was better. Arif Balgamwala is a renowned International Philatelist owning the world's best and rare stamps collection. H.E. Mr. Robert W. Gibson, British Deputy High Commissioner commended Arif Balgamwala for his admirable collection of historical rare stamps when he showed him the First Stamp of the World which was issued by Great Britain in 1840. Arif Balgamwala also presented the stamps of KCCI Building to British Deputy High Commissioner.

Ateeq ur Rehman, Chairman, Banking & Insurance Sub-Committee-KCCI in the meeting discussed Pak-Britain economic relations and emphasized to enhance the bilateral trade. He pointed out that United Kingdom can play an imperative role in vitalizing and enhancing investment in Pakistan in the field of Supply Chain Management, Logistics support services and development of Purpose-Built & Temperaure Control Warehouses. Asif Niar discussed Corporate Social Responsibility with British Deputy High Commissioner and requested that U.K. companies through CSR should help and support health and education sector of Pakistan to grow.

Nasir Mehmood, Chairman, Shipping & Multi-modal Transport Sub-Committee-KCCI & M.A. Rajpar, Senior Vice Chairman, Diplomatic Affairs Sub-Committee-KCCI shared important information about Shipping & Multi-Modal Transport activities in Pakistan and discussed about the British Shipping Companies operating in Pakistan. Arshad Islam, Advisor to Chairman Diplomatic Affairs Sub-Committee-KCCI was of the view that during the past, many British Companies had invested in various sectors of Pakistan which has now declined. He requested the British Deputy High Commissioner to drew the attention of British Companies to invest in the sector of power, warehousing, fisheries etc. Ivan Venantius, Deputy Director UK Trade & Investment Pakistan, British Deputy High Commission, Saima Anjarwala & Sumer Naveed, Trade & Investment Officers, British Deputy High Commission also attended the meeting.
