delegation of Karachi Iron & Steel Merchants Association under the lead of
Haji Ghulam Muhammad Chairman, Mr. Shamoon Bakir Ali President, Mr. Muhammad
Ahmed Vice President and Muhammad Zubair Gheewala, General Secretary of the
association met KCCI's President Mr. Anjum Nisar in respect of the issues
being faced by their association.
Mr. M. Siddiq, Mr. M. Salam, Mr. Irfan Dawood and Ch. Muhammad Rafiq from
Motandas Steel Market alongwith Mr. Saeed Shafiq, Mr. Mazhar, Mr. Muhammad
Kamran Sattar from Tin Plate Market and Mr. Khalid Mustafa Kamal from Malir
Steel Market also participated in the meeting.
Before discussing the issues they congratulated Mr. Anjum Nisar, Mr.
Muhammad Jawed Bilwani and Mr. Muhammad Ali upon taking over the
responsibility of President, Senior Vice President and Vice President of
KCCI respectively and assured their full cooperation.
The delegation was of the view that if the iron steel flat rolled products
be declared as raw material, a revolutionary change may occur in the
engineering industries particularly the cottage industries may be developed
in the country. They said that the import duty on iron & steel as raw
material should be minimized, penalty on undersize imported iron & steel be
abolished by the custom authorities.
They were of the view that role of KCCI be effective in I.T.P. issues,
representation of genuine members in trade bodies be ensured, the
representation of Steel & Iron Merchants Association/KCCI be made on the
board of Pakistan Steel Mills and Engineering Development Board.
They also pointed out that city District Government Karachi has already
allotted a plot of land measuring 75 Acres for storage purpose of Iron &
Steel Merchants Association but their request is to the extent of 150 Acres
for which KCCI should take the matter with City District Government Karachi
and arrange a meeting with the City Nazim Karachi.
KCCI's Chief assured the delegation that KCCI would support their
suggestions for onward submission to the concerned quarters.
The Chamber Chief
urged concerned authorities to consider the demands/suggestions of the Iron
& Steel Merchants Association on urgent basis. |
