The UAE has spared no effort to make sure its National Day on December 2 is
marked with appropriate pomp and grandeur.
The hearts of every Emirati are filled with the overwhelming memories of 2nd
December 1971 when the UAE made history by acquiring
independence from the
British Colonial rulers. The Al-Eid Al Watani (in Arabic) is celebrated with
great zeal all over UAE with a splendid aura of triumph.
As the nation celebrates this anniversary, it cannot but pay tribute to its
founding father , the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, under whose
visionary leadership many remarkable strides were made.
Sheikh Zayed left behind an impressive legacy, a huge legacy that speaks of
itself in various fields of human development. Today, the UAE has gained a
conspicuous place among the comity of nations, thanks to its socio-economic
achievements.
With major economic development projects achieved within a record time span
of three decades, the country is now laying greater emphasis on empowerment
of its people, a task which was clearly spelt out recently by the President
H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE has become a hub of the world's economic, investment and cultural
institutions, President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
said.
"Our efforts and strategic plans are synchronised to turn the UAE into the
regional hub of the world economy by taking pioneer steps in the investment,
industrial, technology and scientific fields," he explained while attending
the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
UAE National Day 2009 celebrations will comprise 61 events in all organized
by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development in union with
other state bodies under the chairmanship of Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais,
Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development. According to him the
logo will act as an official element for all the communication across the
seven emirates which is a pleasant brush stroke this year.
The events will highlight the history, culture, spirit, and achievements of
the UAE federation. The programme of events was organised by the Higher
Committee for Celebrations under the Ministry. These events include
traditional dhow races, endurance races, Bedouin folk songs by local Emirati
men,
exhibitions, pyrotechnics displays, sports events, heritage and
entertainment events, to name a few.
Cars decorated with the national flag and images of the ?Rulers are a common
sight on UAE streets during the National Day.
Apart from the people's party on the Corniche with chanting, singing,
dancing and, of course, engine revving and car horning, the country is
preparing quite a few treats for the celebration of the UAE National Day
across all emirates.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development focused to bring
the joy of celebrating the National Day throughout the country with great
attention given to celebrate the National Day as an opportunity to
demonstrate loyalty to the homeland and upholding the values and highlight
the national identity. So, the Higher Committee was formed to unite all
efforts under one umbrella. |
